THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Woodlands Children’s Museum has planned a week filled with books and reading.

Children’s Book Week at the museum begins on Tuesday, May 3, and lasts through Saturday, May 7.

A variety of special events are planned, including two readings of “Itty Bitty Wouldn’t Budge” by the book’s author Victoria Martin – at 10:45 and 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3.

At 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, professional storyteller Leona Hoegsberg will enthrall listeners with a story reflecting the culture of Cinco de Mayo.

“Leona has a real gift for keeping a young audience interested,” Angela Colton, the museum’s executive director, said. “She thoughtfully selects stories that children are certain to love.”

At 11 a.m. on Friday, May 6, the Brave Little Company will perform “Bravo, Chico Canta! Bravo” based on the book by Pat Mora and Libby Martinez.

Book Week concludes with the Barefoot Books Fair, which will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 6, and again from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 7.

Barefoot Books was founded in 1992 by Nancy Traversy and Tessa Strickland, mothers who create bright, colorful books with lively artwork and stories that captivate imaginations.

“Reading is so essential to children’s success in school and in life in general,” Colton said. “It’s important to foster a love of literature from an early age. Children’s Book Week is the perfect opportunity to help young readers get inspired.”

This event is included in the cost of admission, which is $6 per person 1 year and older. Activities are designed for ages 7 years and under. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The museum is located at 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive, Suite 280.
