HOUSTON, Texas – The YMCA of Greater Houston has been working with the Red Cross to help victims of the April 18-19 flood recover from water in their homes and the loss of essential belongings. In addition to collecting and distributing items such as bleach, non-perishable foods, hygiene products and new clothes, the YMCA is offering a free, one-month membership to those affected by the flood in the Greater Houston area.

The Mayday Membership Pass – which is valid through May 31 at all YMCAs in the Greater Houston area – will allow individuals and families to have a clean place to shower and a chance to relax. They can also reduce stress by working out in a fully-equipped gym or in fitness classes that include kickboxing, ZUMBA and aerobics. Healthy living programs, swimming and family events are also available.

Those interested must reside in an affected zip code in Fort Bend, Harris, Montgomery and Wharton counties and present a valid Texas driver’s license or identification card. Please visit your nearest YMCA or contact www.ymcahouston.org for more information.

If you are already a YMCA facility member and are interested in volunteering to help those who have flooded, please visit your center and ask how you may be able to provide assistance.
