THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Stephanie Groves, a Middle School science teacher at The John Cooper School, was honored in March by being named The University of Houston 2016 Melinda Mills Teacher of the Year in the Junior Division of the Science Engineering Fair of Houston. The honor is awarded each year to a teacher who has consistently had students qualify and participate in the annual competition.

Groves, who holds a bachelor's degree from Texas Lutheran University and a Masters of Education from Grand Canyon University, has taught at Cooper for five years. She is pleased with the participation of her students in the SCI://Tech and Houston science fairs. "Forty one seventh and eighth grade Cooper students competed in the SCI://Tech science fair competition in Montgomery County this year, and of those, 34, or 83 percent, qualified to participate in the Science Engineering Fair of Houston," she said.

"The number of Cooper students who have participated at the Houston science fair has consistently increased, and I think it shows the strength of our program," she continued. "I am very honored to have been recognized."

The John Cooper School is an independent, college preparatory school for students in Pre-K through Grade 12.
