Oak Ridge North Mayor Jim Kuykendall's plea for the community to read this before you vote

Hello Neighbor!

I have made it clear to everyone that will listen that I love public service – but I hate politics. This election has been nothing but politics and I am glad it is almost over. We now have three days until election day.

My opponent has said virtually anything and promised everything all in an attempt to get votes. There is no way that he can deliver the promises he has made. Things such as:

· He said he will roll back the water rates by 25% and spend restricted reserve funds. That is going to force our city to go into debt and that will result in our taxes going up!

· He said he will force the traffic from Robinson Road to go elsewhere by putting up stop signs and speed bumps. There is nowhere else for the traffic to go. There are no other roads to use and no money to build any. We have to work to manage and expidite the traffic so we can move around our city without gridlock!

· He said he will reduce the taxes we pay. We have reduced our tax rate every year. Most of our tax income is from commercial property taxes not homeowners! The reason homeowners tax bills are higher is because their property values have gone up – which is what all of us want! We want our property values to go up! If Mr. Stahl cuts the taxes based on property values then he will have to cut the services that we get as citizens such as Police protection and public works. We don’t want that!

I need your help.

I need you to vote on Saturday May 7, at the Community Center at the corner of Robinson Rd and Hanna.

I need you to tell your friends to vote, and even take them with you!

We stand at a crossroads. Whether to move forward with the positive and planned efforts we have been working on - or to go back to the days when we ignored problems and let our city run down.
