THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Texas A&M Forest Service continues its commitment to Texas Volunteer Fire Departments. The Timber Lakes VFD recently received a rescue equipment grant through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program to help increase the department’s potential to save lives.

The grant was used to purchase new rescue and extrication equipment such as a spreader, cutter, pump, ram, ram block and 64-feet of hydraulic hose.

These tools aid responders in freeing and rescuing auto accident victims in a timely and safe manner.

“This extrication equipment is a new addition to our department and will go on our new engine,” Timber Lakes VFD Chief Josh Kennedy said. “Our older jaws unit will go on our special equipment truck.”

Timber Lakes VFD serves approximately 5000 residents of Timber Lakes and Timber Ridge subdivisions as well as surrounding areas in south Montgomery County.

Chief Kennedy explained that they receive a lot of calls for auto accidents and having two Jaws of Life allows them to respond to multiple incidents at once.

The Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program provides funding to rural VFDs for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing, dry-hydrants, computer systems and firefighter training. It is a cost-share program funded by the Texas State Legislature and administered by Texas A&M Forest Service.
