Spend an “evening in St. Petersburg” Right in Your Own Backyard

CONROE, TX – A special evening is planned to benefit local nonprofit Young Texas Artists Music Competition – and organizers promise to whisk guests away to Russia for the occasion.

“An Evening in St. Petersburg” begins at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the beautiful Teaswood home of Sandy and Dwain Riney in Conroe. After a dinner buffet of Russian cuisine, guests will be treated to some classic Russian music.

Pianist Sergey Kuznetsov, who was a YTA Grand Prize winner in the 2005 competition, will perform an all-Russian program, including works by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and other well-known Russian composers.

“Dr. Kuznetsov is an incredible talent – and it will be a fantastic opportunity to see him perform in such an intimate setting,” Lana Hazlett, one of the event planners, said. She added that attendees will have a chance to visit with Kuznetsov during the evening.

Hazlett has been collecting a number of exciting auction items for the event, including a Houston Grand Opera package that includes opera tickets and a three-course meal in the Wortham Theatre Center’s Founders Salon. Also up for grabs is a professional portrait photography session. a package of Botox, makeup and skin care products, and an antique mother of pearl dessert set.

Tickets cost $125 per person or $115 for members of YTA Circle. Reservations for the event may be made by Monday, May 11, by calling 281-381-1063.

An official music competition of the State of Texas, Young Texas Artists Music Competition was created in 1983 by the Montgomery County Performing Arts Society, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, to encourage excellence in young musicians and further artistic growth throughout Texas. It is one of the few competitions in the country where musicians compete in their choice of four divisions: Voice; Piano; Strings; and Winds, Brass, Percussion, Harp and Guitar. This Texas competition for Texas artists has helped produce many distinguished professionals who have gone on to join prestigious orchestras, opera companies, universities and music schools around the globe.
