THE WOODLANDS, Texas – South County 4th of July Parade Committee’s 41st Annual 4th of July Parade will take place July 4 starting at 9:00 a.m. in The Woodlands Town Center. The South County 4 th of July Committee is an organization of ten dedicated volunteers responsible for the 4 th of July Parade in The Woodlands and is designated as a 501(c)(3) corporation funded through donations.

We are excited to have Darryl as the 2016 Grand Marshal, as his revival of The Woodlands Symphony has certainly celebrates this year’s theme.

In accordance with this year’s parade theme, “Music of America,” the coveted Parade Grand Marshal position has been awarded to Darryl Bayer, the Artistic Director of The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra. More than 18,000 spectators will line the streets in The Town Center to watch the 145 parade entries including 40+ dignitaries and eight judges. “We are excited about the 2016 parade. We are excited to have Darryl as the 2016 Grand Marshal, as his revival of The Woodlands Symphony has certainly celebrates this year’s theme, Music of America”, said Kelly Dietrich, President of the South County 4th of July Committee.

Before the parade starts 26 street performers - jugglers, clowns, superheroes, magicians, and other fun entertainment mingle with the crowd. At 9:00 a.m. on July 4th The Woodlands Fire Department officially leads off the parade. Family members of all ages enjoy the fire engines, military, floats, horses and much more. The parade route is approximately 1.3 miles long and meanders through the Town Center area, through Market Street, beginning and ending at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. Parade entry judging will occur on the parade route just above the North Commons in Market Street with ten award categories.

Announcers are positioned on the balcony and at three additional locations on the parade route. The MC’s have been Nick Wolda, President of the CVB, and Ramon Torres, a local entertainer. This year the parade theme is “Music of America.” Prior to the parade kick off, the Declaration of Independence is read from Town Green Park, one of the three Announcer areas around the route. In Market Street, The Woodlands Concert Band plays patriotic music prior to the parade and, to start the parade, Nancy Curtis, a Grammy-winning Soprano and resident sings the National Anthem.

The parade supports and features our military Troops and Veterans through Military Service Branch entries. The media has indicated that The Woodlands parade has “the most Military presence of any parade in the Region.” The Texas Army National Guard and the U. S. Army Reserves have been participating in the parade since 2009. Again this year, the Seventy-second Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 453rd Inland Cargo Transfer Company (U.S. Army Reserves), based out of Houston, TX, 1-133D Field Artillery and Charlie Company Recruiting and Retention Command (color guard) will participate.

The committee hosts an annual Marching Band Scholarship Program.
