Meet the judges for the 2016 4th of July Parade

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — We would like to introduce this year's judges for the 2016 4th of July Parade.

John Powers is the Assistant General Manager of Community Services for The Woodlands Township and has been for 18 years. He oversees all of the Community Service departments including Covenant Administration, Law Enforcement, Neighborhood Services, Parks, Recreation and Environmental Services, and Transportation and Infrastructure. He and his wife Debbie live in the Village of Cochran’s Crossing and have two children and two grandsons.

Ted Oberg is the Investigative Reporter at Houston’s ABC 13. You can see his reports many nights at 6 or 10 and online anytime at www.abc13.com/oberginvestigates . Recently he’s spent a fair amount of time in and around The Woodlands knee deep in flood water. Ted grew up in NY, went to college at the University of Michigan, arrived in Houston in 2001 and has made The Woodlands home with his wife Krista and 3 great daughters since 2011.

Emily Powers is the Content Director at Woodlands Online. The online world doesn't sleep, and neither does Woodlands Online. At the intersection of community news, live streaming of high school athletics, events, jobs and classifieds, to name a few, you'll find the life that is Woodlands Online. Missy Herndon is the President & CEO Interfaith of The Woodlands and Interfaith Community Clinic of The Woodlands is a non-profit social service agency providing numerous programs and services to meet the needs of The Woodlands and the surrounding area. Interfaith’s ongoing commitment is to make a difference and to be a multi-faceted community resource. Interfaith helps individuals and families in crisis through financial assistance for rent, mortgage, utilities, gasoline, prescription drug assistance, emergency shelter, food, clothing, senior programs and offers counseling, job training, and child care. Interfaith Community Clinic was established in 1996 by Dr. Joel Kerschenbaum and provides basic medical, dental and preventative health care services to those in need. It is a volunteer based health care center that provides services to those in our community who have no form of health insurance. Missy Herndon is also the co-founder of The Will Herndon Research Fund of Beyond Batten Disease Foundation.

Nelda Blair is the Founding Chair of The Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau, and an attorney for The Blair Law Firm. The Blair Law Firm provides legal consulting, local counsel, government liaison and expert witness services to a select clientele. The Firm is also involved in local, state and national political campaigns, charitable and political fund raising, educational awareness and community affairs.

Bonnie Pfrenger is the Director of Development Meals on Wheels Montgomery County. Founded in 1973, Meals on Wheels Montgomery County provides warm nutritious meals to our local homebound seniors. Meals on Wheels exists to improve the lives of the homebound elderly and help keep them out of costly nursing homes and hospitals. Serving more than 500 seniors each weekday, we help our aging neighbors remain well nourished, connected to the community, and independent within the comfort of their own home. As the only organization in Montgomery County to offer meal delivery services to those in need, our work is especially critical. Our vision is to feed every homebound senior in need.

Kelly Dietrich is the President South County 4th of July Committee. The South County 4th of July Committee is an organization of ten dedicated volunteers responsible for the 4th of July Parade in The Woodlands and is designated as a 501(c)(3) corporation funded through donations. Kelly has been involved with the parade since 1999. She first started as the Marketing Chair and has been the President since 2009. The parade dates back to the 1980’s when it was originally organized by The Woodlands Lions Club. The South County 4th of July Committee was organized in the early 1990’s. The parade has grown from a small hometown parade with families riding bikes to a large-scale regional event attracting 145 entries and more than 20,000 people in attendance. Family members of all ages enjoy the fire engines, military, floats, horses and much more. The parade route is approximately 1.3 miles long and meanders through the Town Center area, through Market Street, beginning and ending at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. This year the parade theme is “Music of America.”
