Feed your Olympic appetite at Stadia Sports Grill

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — I doubt I’m the only one that got a little Olympic fever while watching The Woodlands' own Kassidy Cook & Spring’s Simone Biles earn their way onto Team USA. Did you see the great documentary Woodlands Online did on Kassidy? Check it out here.

So now that I was amped up with my own Olympic-sized goals, I immediately thought, "Where am I going to watch her dive during the games?" It had to be a neighborhood place...one with tons of huge TVs...and of course, they needed to serve grub fit for an Olympian (and by Olympian, I mean a fan of watching them on huge TVs with good grub). The place that came to mind? Stadia Sports Grill at Market Street.

I decided to do a little recon prior to next months Olympic games. After all, it's never too early to plan ahead and besides, I was hungry now. I arrived just as they opened so I could wander around and pick out the best place to sit. I can’t tell you exactly where I plan on sitting, that’s highly classified info, but remember: when it comes to watching the Olympics, there is no second place.

Now it was time to check out the grub. I wanted to try a few things at once, so the Slider Flight seemed the best choice. A burger, pulled pork and buffalo chicken. You can add whatever topping to each you’d like. Looking back I should have been more adventurous with my toppings. I added swiss cheese to the burger, which also came with lettuce/tomato/red onion (as did the buffalo chicken slider). I left the pulled pork alone. Next time I’ll ask for cole slaw on top. The flight comes with a side of fries. Does anyone else eat ALL their fries first? Let me know if I’m crazy (NOTE: only registered doctors will be taken seriously).

My sliders arrive as I was enjoying a little Wimbledon on one of the big screens. Wish they were open for Breakfast at Wimbledon - a breakfast Slider Flight sounds good to me.

As I said, fries first. They had a nice crispiness to them, essential to qualify as an Olympian-worthy fry (again, Olympian in this context means a fan, watching, with good grub). So much for the prelims...now it was time for the main event. First "heat?" The burger. I’m not gonna lie, it was a little small but that could be because I'm just used to giant burgers, not sliders. But it was good! I probably needed to add mushrooms for the perfect pairing of toppings. The second "heat" included the pork slider, which disappeared before I knew what was really happening. I smiled: I was in the eating zone! Last "heat" was with the buffalo chicken slider and it was never close. Don't get me wrong, this one definitely had some spice to it - not as hot as Roger Federer was playing - but a good match. But when you're in the zone, you feel unbeatable. Final tally: me 3, sliders 0. Victory again. In terms of sandwich Olympians (see definition above) I consider myself one of the greats. Now, where is that medal stand going to go?

As a pre-Olympics meet, I'm satisfied with my, and the sliders', performance. A little more tweaking and next month will be perfection. I hope to see you all there to watch Kassidy & Simone take home GOLD. USA! USA!
