THE WOODLANDS, Texas — A physician who grew up in The Woodlands is coming home to practice medicine at Houston Methodist Primary Care Group’s Sterling Ridge location.

Adrienne Blessing, M.D., is joining the practice effective Aug. 1, and she is thrilled to be back in The Woodlands.

“I have so many fond memories of growing up in The Woodlands, and I always wanted to come back to practice medicine,” she says. “It’s like a dream come true.”

Blessing, then Adrienne Lord, moved with her family to the area as a child. She attended Sally K. Ride Elementary and later McCullough Junior High School, where she was a member of the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) club. She became interested in medicine as a career when she suffered a number of injuries as a competitive gymnast at the now-closed The Woodlands Athletic Center.

“I spent a lot of time in doctors’ offices,” she recalled. “I realized that helping patients was something that I wanted to do, and I made up my mind to become a doctor.”

Blessing later participated in competitive cheerleading at Woodlands Elite Cheer and eventually was selected to be a cheerleader at The Woodlands High School.

After graduating, she earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and an MBA from Drexel University in Philadelphia. She came back to Texas to study medicine, earning her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She recently completed her family medicine residency in Sugar Land.

Blessing believes in a patient-centric approach to primary care, one that involves listening and learning about each individual’s unique needs.

“Every person is different, and if I can develop a treatment plan that takes into account an individual’s lifestyle, cultural influences or even something as simple as their work schedule, I can help them more effectively,” she said. “Communication is the key to a successful physician-patient relationship.”
