Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Citizen's Academy enrollment extended to July 28
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy will begin August 11. For those interested in participating, the enrollment has been extended through July 28 until 5:00 p.m. There are still available openings and the class is FREE to citizens who live or work in Montgomery County.
Approaching twenty years that the Citizen’s Academy has enabled the community to develop a cohesive working relationship with the Sheriff’s Office, it has proven to be a most efficient and powerful tool in the fight against crime.
The curriculum addresses the following objectives:
- Meet many of the staff who make the county a safer place
- Learn the different divisions within the Sheriff’s Office
- Learn about the training, tools, and mission of the different divisions
- Gain a better understanding of what it is like to be behind the badge
Instructors represent the following divisions of the MCSO:
- Academy
- Administrative staff
- Communications
- Crime Scene Investigations
- Criminal Investigations Division
- Departmental Integrity Unit
- Patrol
- Special Investigations unit
The Citizen’s Academy is conducted at the Clint Peoples Training Academy located in the Criminal Justice Center at #1 Criminal Justice Drive. The 15-week course consists of one 3-hour class each week on Thursdays from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., and also one Saturday.
The program is offered twice a year: Feb to June, and Aug to Nov; each is limited to approximately 35 attendees. The exact dates for the second session are August 11 to November 17.
