THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Rapidly, The Woodlands area is becoming established as south Texas’ up-and-coming new medical center. Four major healthcare providers have invested $900 million in facility construction and expansion within the next two years. According to The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership, the healthcare industry in the area is second only to the energy industry for major employers.

It is this ongoing and growing legitimacy of The Woodlands being viewed as a medical force to be considered that makes Dr. Mark Ciaglia of Woodlands Center for Special Surgery even more proud to be voted “Best Orthopedic Surgeon in The Woodlands” by a major “reader’s choice” poll.

Dr. Ciaglia and the staff at the center provide a full range of procedures and services, including arthritic hand reconstruction, carpal tunnel release, hand and wrist fracture and dislocation treatment, platelet-rich plasma injection, steroid injection, tendon repair, trigger finger release, wrist fusion and wrist replacement. Conditions that the center treats include autoimmune diseases, bone disorders, carpal tunnel syndrome, fractures of the hand (including fingers), osteoarthritis of hand or wrist, rheumatoid arthritis and trigger finger.

Dr. Ciaglia studied biology and chemistry at Illinois Wesleyan University, then completed medical school at Nova Southeastern University College of Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. After training in general and trauma surgery for five years, he was accepted to the Single Hand Surgery & Microsurgical Fellowship at Beth Israel Albert Einstein in Manhattan, New York.
