SHENANDOAH, Texas — The possibility of a win was up in the air for the Oak Ridge War Eagles as they battled through multiple penalties.

Watch the highlights from the game.

Senior running back Jimmie Moore came into the first quarter with a 74-yard run for a touchdown, but the remainder of the quarter was slow moving with a stream of penalties rolling for Fort Bend Elkins. Elkins later scored a touchdown, but Oak Ridge blocked the punt, bringing them to their halftime score of 7-6, War Eagles.

Returning to the third quarter, the Knights took the opening drive for a touchdown, pulling ahead of the War Eagles 13-7. Oak Ridge took their lead back when Player of the Game and junior quarterback Bishop Durst connected with senior wide receiver Kyle Townsend for a 50-yard touchdown pass.

Despite being up 14-13 entering the fourth quarter, a steady stream of penalties on the War Eagles and Elkins threw off the pace of the game. A touchdown pass in the back of the in-zone from Durst brought Oak Ridge to their final score of 21-13.

“The effort was there, and the kids competed, and we got a win,” Head Coach Derek Rush said. “It was somewhat of a sloppy game, bad penalties here and there. We’re gonna check film to see if we really got all those penalties, but overall, it’s a victory, and we’re gonna take it and build off of it and hopefully get better.”

The Oak Ridge War Eagles will take on Klein Forest at Memorial Stadium Thursday, September 8 at 7 p.m.
