The Woodlands Highlanders take on rival Oak Ridge War Eagles tonight

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Join us at Woodlands Online for live play-by-play action as The Woodlands Highlanders clash with local rival the Oak Ridge War Eagles tonight at 7 p.m. at Woodforest Bank Stadium.

The Woodlands enters the game ranked sixth nationally among 6A schools according to the Associated Press. The Highlanders proved they are legitimate state title contenders when they walloped Beaumont West Brook 72-7 last week. For West Brook, which also entered that game with a perfect record, it was the most lopsided loss in team history.

Highlander quarterback Eric Schmid, who has passed for 13 touchdowns in his last three games, reminded defenses he is a nightmare as a rushing threat too. Last week he gained 136 yards on the ground, including touchdown runs of 64 and 57 yards.

For Oak Ridge to pull off the upset, they’ll need to duplicate their defensive performance from a week ago. They forced six turnovers to beat College Park 28-7. They cashed in three of those turnovers in the third quarter for three touchdowns.

The Woodlands defense will be focused on trying to slow down War Eagles’ senior tailback Jimmie Moore. He rushed for 500 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
