THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Clothes shopping can be one of the most dreaded tasks for a woman.

It can be hard to find comfort and style tied in with a brand you feel good about, but tucked away in a little boutique in Alden Bridge is a clothing line that beautifully weaves all of these things together.

31 Roots offers comfortable, unique, classic and stylish pieces at affordable prices. And just in time for the colder weather, the 31 Roots fall and winter collection features a variety of exclusive t-shirts, jackets, dresses, seamless camisoles and bras, jewelry and bags. Their clothes range in size from extra small to large, with a variety of styles to fit many body types.

Woodlands Online had a chance to speak with 31 Roots founders Ashley Frey and Natalie Leslie.

WOL: Where did the idea for 31 Roots come from?

31 Roots: We are two girls who love fashion and expressing our personalities through what we wear, so the opportunity to shape these passions into a business was such a gift. Ashley’s college friend, Jen, had started a similar business in Dallas back in 2010 and suggested to Ashley that she start something similar in The Woodlands. There have been lots of growing pains along the way, but here we are five years into the business.

WOL: What’s the meaning behind the name 31 Roots?

31 Roots: It's derived from Proverbs 31:25 "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come." It is our desire to be ROOTED in Him and therefore find our worth and purpose in who He has created us to be. We want to share the grace, love and hope we have in Him with all the beautiful women we meet through our little business. We know that a new piece of clothing or jewelry can make a girl feel extra special and confident, but much more important is beauty from within.

WOL: What is your favorite thing about running 31 Roots?

31 Roots: The people! This business has allowed us to meet so many women we may not have otherwise. As much as we love encouraging and sharing joy and laughter through events and social media communication, we are blessed more so by hearing their stories and connecting beyond just the clothing.

WOL: What are some of the more difficult challenges?

31 Roots: Time management. Ash and I (Natalie) are both moms, wives, daughters, friends and Bible study leaders. Like most of us, this business is one of many things on our plate. While it provides extra income to support our families and we love growing relationships with our customers, we have to be intentional in keeping time boundaries.

WOL: What do you see in the future for 31 Roots?

31 Roots: We love giving back and supporting missions that are dear to us and our customers. We currently donate 10 percent of all proceeds to missions and would love the opportunity to partner with more organizations.
