THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The community continues to rally around Grant Milton as he continues his battle in a Waco hospital.

Grant, a senior at The Woodlands High School, suffered a traumatic brain injury during a football game.

The Highlander has since been in a coma. His father, Miles Milton, regularly posts updates on Grant's CaringBridge page. Here is the latest, posted Monday Dec. 5.

Grant underwent an MRI last night to provide more detail about the condition of his brain. We met with his doctors this morning to review the results. Grant's brain is still exhibiting some swelling, particularly on his right side. The doctors have indicated this was typical with this type of brain trauma and may now take 4-6 weeks to diminish. The MRI revealed what is currently described as an edema primarily in the right hemisphere of the brain, however, the edema does exist on the frontal lobe of the left hemispheres as well. While the information is important to view the condition of his brain today, it cannot predict the future. The MRI does provide some reason for optimism. While Grant's status is unchanged, critical and comatose, there is more hope everyday that he can overcome this trauma. His primary strengths, youth and physical health work in his favor. God is the great healer and is showing his love and care over Grant constantly. As we've said many times this is a journey. Each day is two steps forward and one step back but at least his trend continues to be positive. Keep praying, he will need it everyday until he recovers.

Chick-fil-A in The Woodlands hosted two fundraisers last week. This week, Chili's is lining up to do the same, as is Yogurt Worx.

The Woodlands Highlanders defeated the Round Rock Dragons Saturday Dec. 3, advancing to state semi-finals this Saturday, Dec. 10, against the Allen Eagles. Kickoff is 1 p.m. at UT-Austin.
