MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Edgebrook Equestrian Center show team had another successful weekend at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas this past Saturday and Sunday, January 7 & 8, 2017.

Despite the frigid temperatures, they had four riders sweep their classes, two to win Reserve of their divisions and one win Grand. 'I was so proud of our girls... Sophie [Eickstead] and Addison [Russell] both moved up to new divisions this year and walked away tied for Reserve. We had two girls that showed for the first time and did amazing: Camille [Schnell] won Grand Champion in her division with three firsts and a second. Ellen [Gomez] got second in her equitation class and had an awesome first run in the Pony Division on her pony, The Promised Warrior', said Sayer, Townsend, Owner and Head Trainer at Edgebrook. The girls’ moms were glad to head home on Sunday afternoon to thaw out but the riders and their horses preferred to stay in Katy and keep showing rather than start the school week.

With temperatures in the low twenties on Saturday morning, it was surprising to see these girls- ages 8 to 14- unselfishly sharing their blankets. But were they willing to share with their moms, siblings or trainers that were valiantly braving the cold to offer their support and assistance? No. Nine year old team member Addison Russell, of Navasota, said the only one she was willing to share her blanket with was her pony, Gingersnap. Gingersnap did look cozy with a warm fleece blanket tucked around her (as Addison’s mom stood shivering a few feet away).

The team’s next competition will be on Sunday, January 22 at Edgebrook Equestrian Center. Classes starts at 8am and will go through ~2pm. All are hoping for warmer weather and a big crowd to cheer them on to a victory.
