THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Theo Goff was sitting in the stands at Oak Ridge High School with his classmates, thinking it was just another random school presentation.

Little did he know he was about to be surprised with a $20,000 scholarship.

"I saw these guys come out in suits … then I saw the Foot Locker signs and started freaking out," Goff said. "Mind blown."

Goff is one of 20 student athletes across the nation to be honored with a scholarship from the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program.

He now joins the Foot Locker Class of 2017, selected from a pool of 37,000 applicants.

"The Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program celebrates and honors outstanding students like Theo who have taken the skills they've acquired through sports and applied them to excel academically, and become leaders within their communities," stated a press release from Foot Locker CEO Richard A. Johnson.

Goff, a cross country runner, is heading to Texas A&M to run and study kinesiology.

"I want to be a head coach, because my own coach (Dennis Muehlstein) has impacted my life in so many different ways," Goff said. "I came into high school thinking I wouldn't go to college, that I would just join the workforce after graduation. But he showed me that's not true. I respect him so much."

Goff has earned his fair share of respect as well.

After recently witnessing a car accident behind him, he was the first one to provide first aid.

Goff broke one of the windows with his bare hands to pull the passenger to safety.

"I wasn't really thinking about being afraid," Goff said. "I was worried about if the guy was going to make it."

The Foot Locker scholarship will make a huge difference in Goff's college career.

"It's literally changed how I will spend the rest of my life," he said.
