CONROE, Texas--- The Conroe Tigers hosted the Oak Ridge War Eagles at Moorhead stadium Friday night for their first taste of district competition for the 2017 season.

The War Eagles offense took the field first and had a strong start. The Woodlands Online player of the game quarterback Reinard Britz spread the ball around early, including passes to wide receiver Darrius Jelks and running back #40 Max Gonzales. However, a pair of costly penalties stalled the drive and forced the War Eagles to kick a field goal.

Following a turnover on downs by the Tigers on their opening drive, the War Eagles took full advantage of their short field and scored the first touchdown of the game. Running back #25 Trevarious Grimes ran and was untouched from 16-yards out.

The Tigers defense made great plays all night, despite their offense routinely putting them in tough positions. Linebacker, #44, Ty’Dus Clay was seemingly all over the field. In a series early in the second quarter, Clay recorded back-to-back tackle for losses.

Following a fumble by Tigers’ quarterback Jordan Black, the Tigers defense came up with yet another impressive stand, forcing the War Eagles to take another field goal. Kicker #82 Hasan Issa put the 42-yard kick right down the middle of the uprights.

Just before the half, in an impressive two-minute drive, the Eagles scored their second touchdown of the game. Running back Kamari Williams ran it in from 4-yards out to put the War Eagles up 20-0 at the half.

Entering the second half, the Tigers made it interesting with an explosive opening drive. Wide receiver Brandon Schnautz brought the Tigers in to the red zone after a big catch and run. On the very next play, running back Donaven Lloyd took it in for the touchdown from 10-yards out on a direct snap.

The Tigers defense kept their momentum rolling, coming up with a big interception in the end zone by #22 Tyrese Lewis. However, it diidn't last long. The Tigers’ field goal attempt was blocked and returned for a touchdown on the following drive, bringing the score to 27-7.

The War Eagles offense finished off the game with a dagger from Britz to wide receiver #18 Lacy Turner. Streaking down the right sideline, Turner beat his defender on a go route and Britz found him in stride on his best throw of the night. Turner found the end zone just before the end of the game, bringing the final score to 34-7.

The War Eagles move to a convincing 4-0 on the season while the Tigers continue to look for their first win of the season.

Next week Conroe will look to correct their offensive woes during their bye week, while Oak Ridge will go on the road next week against Montgomery.
