THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Here's an update on John Cooper School Dragon football and volleyball.

VARSITY FOOTBALL

10/20 vs. Arlington Oakridge* 29-34 LOSS

  • Passing: Evan Minarovic was 25-59 for 313 yards, 2 TDs, and 3 INT
  • Rushing: Evan Minarovic rushed 8 times for 90 yards and 2 TDs
  • Receiving: Matt Krehbiel had 7 catches for 100 yards and 1 TD; Logan Leax had 6 catches for 81 yards; Thomas Elkhoury had 6 catches for 74 yards and 1 TD; Ryan Reid had 2 catches 34 yards
  • Tackles: Eric Grosser had 10.5 tackles; Matt Krehbiel had 8 tackles; Cameron Reed had 8 tackles and two sacks

"That was as tough a loss to take as this program has suffered. The effort the boys put out was incredible. To be down 28-0 in the first quarter and to come back to take the lead 29-28 with six minutes to go was an incredible feeling. The crowd was a huge factor in helping the boys come back. Our defense shut down their offense for three quarters until that last play. Give credit to Oakridge for making that incredible play but that play should have never happened. I am so proud of my boys for not quitting and for fighting until the very last play. This program is on the rise. We now have to regroup and get ready to go on the road to face last year’s SPC 3A champion Fort Worth Country Day. I am confident that these boys will meet the challenge just as they have all year long." Coach Brent Landrum

Next up for Dragon Football

  • November 3 at Greenhill*, 7 p.m.

VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

  • Season record: 18-5
  • SPC Zone Play: 2-2

10/17 at St. John's* 3-2 WIN

"We started down 0-2 in a best of 5. We had a quick chat about how to approach the next set, play for one another and it completely changed the momentum in our favor. We had a very dramatic comeback beating St. John’s, 3-2, in sets. It was a great match. The girls played together and overcame huge adversity. Rarely does a team win a match after being down two sets." Coach Ray Hedden

10/19 vs. Concordia Lutheran* 0-3 LOSS

"Concordia is the #1 ranked school in the area among private schools. We played well in the loss and showed we still have some things to take care of in practice, but the bigger picture was the cause. I am so proud of this team and how they handle themselves! They were phenomenal in their efforts to carry on a great culture for Dig Pink®, Side Out and a cure for breast cancer." Coach Ray Hedden

Next up for Dragon Volleyball

  • October 27 vs. St. Andrew’s Episcopal*, 6 p.m.
  • October 28 vs. St. Stephen’s Episcopal, 11 a.m.
  • November 2-3 SPC Championships in Fort Worth
