THE WOODLANDS, Texas—As the football season rolls into week 8, the College Park Cavaliers are still searching for their first district win of the season. The search is still on for the Cavs as they are unbale to grab the win from the Montgomery Bears in a 42-14 loss.

The scoring was opened up by Bears’ senior running back Alex Nunn. Nunn gave Montgomery a nice addition to the run game in an offense that likes to spread the ball around with quick throws and screens. While Montgomery jumped out to a quick start, College Park still seemed to be slowed down due to injuries suffered in the past two weeks. The Cavaliers saw some of their most productive players go down, names such as Austin Fox, Travis Washburn, and Dane Vann all being helped off the field at some point during the game. Quarterback Jordan Hood also added to the scoring in the first half with a 5-yard scamper to put the Bears up 14 over the Cavs. The Bears’ quarterback would end his day with five scores to add to his impressive season.

With Nunn running well for the Bears, The Cavaliers turned to their own productive ball-carrier, Dane Vann. The duo of Vann and fellow running back Travis Washburn has been the highlight of the Cavalier’s offense throughout the season, but it was Vann getting the bulk of the carries in Saturday's district clash. The Cavaliers turned to their running game to hold the ball from Hood and the Bears. Quarterback Jake Hunnicutt also saw a good amount of run plays called his way, which has rarely been seen from Coach Lonnie Madison’s new offensive scheme.

Down 28-0 early into the second half, the Cavaliers came crawling back. Dane Vann ran one in from 10 yards out after a huge gain on a pass from Hunnicutt to Roger Younger. On the Cavs next possession, they were able to hold Montgomery to a punt then proceeded to score off a Hunnicutt scramble to bring them within two touchdowns.

The Montgomery offense was too much for the Cavaliers to handle. The Bears rattled off a couple more scores to close out the game with a 42-14 victory over College Park. Montgomery will continue to be in the fourth playoff spot conversation, while the Cavs will go into their bye week with a 1-7 overall record and will remain winless in district. The Cavaliers will have an extra week to get ready for district leaders and cross-town rival The Woodlands Highlanders.
