CONROE, Texas--- The Conroe Tigers will host the Lufkin Panthers this Friday night, with hopes of rebounding after a tough loss to The Woodlands Highlanders last week. The Panthers, who have put up back-to-back blow out wins the last two weeks, look to keep their momentum on the road.

The Tigers secondary faces a tough challenge in stopping Panther’s quarterback #4 Kewone Thomas. Thomas has showcased his patience and timing in the pocket all season long. The Panthers run an aggressive offense that looks to exploit the big plays.

The Panthers also has a talented duo of wide receiver’s in #9 Breylon Garcia and #2 Malik Jackson. Garcia, standing at 6’4, is an easy jump-ball target for Thomas, while Jackson is a smaller, shiftier, receiver who can create plays underneath.

In order to shut down the explosive Panther’s offense, the Tiger’s will need to put pressure on Thomas, forcing him out of the pocket. If the Tigers defensive line can disrupt his timing, the secondary will have a much easier time covering downfield. Look for senior defensive linemen #90 Alen Barrera to lead the way on that front.

The Tiger’s offense has struggled to find consistency on a week-to-week basis. However, their greatest strength lies in running the ball. The key to Tiger’s offensive success will be running the clock and winning the time-of-possession battle. Look for the Tiger’s offensive line to take control of the line of scrimmage early in the game, in order to keep the Panther’s offense off the field.

Next week ushers in the end of the 2017 district games, with the Tiger’s closing out against West Brook and the Panther’s finishing off at home against Montgomery.

The game will be held at Moorhead Stadium at 7:30 p.m. this Friday night.
