THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Howard Hughes Corporation® (NYSE: HHC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, The Woodlands® Development Company, are pleased to announce that The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) has awarded Hughes Landing® both Gold and Commendation Awards at the 2017 U.S. Design and Development Awards competition.

ISCS recognizes properties for their excellence, innovation and creativity in the U.S. retail real estate industry. ICSC has named Hughes Landing a gold winner for Sustainability and a commendation winner for Design.

“We are honored to be recognized by the International Council of Shopping Centers for our commitment to excellence in Hughes Landing. Along with the team at The Howard Hughes Corporation, many consultants and contractors helped our vision succeed, and we would like to thank them for their efforts,” said Jim Carman, Vice President, Master Planned Communities, Commercial Development for The Woodlands Development Company. “The Hughes Landing mixed-use urban development is unique because of its successful design and rapid lease-up, as well as the amazingly short time frame it took to bring the project from concept to reality – a 36-month period.”

Hughes Landing is a 66-acre mixed-use, walkable development comprised of five Class-A office buildings, an upscale multifamily residence, a 205-key Embassy Suites by Hilton hotel, a 175,000-square- foot retail podium anchored by Whole Foods Market® and Restaurant Row, set alongside the picturesque 200-acre Lake Woodlands.

The landscaped grounds include Lakes Edge Boat House, a “green” kayak kiosk; a dog park; art sculptures; a planked boardwalk; and an open-air theatre that hosts a series of free concert performances. Residents and visitors are also able to access hike-and- bike trails.

The ICSC U.S. Design and Development Awards competition was open to shopping center owners, developers, management companies, architects, designers, retailers, and other professionals responsible for retail projects or retail store designs that demonstrated outstanding development or redevelopment characteristics with a high degree of creativity and uniqueness within the continental U.S. The competition focused on four general categories: Renovations and Expansions; New Developments; Sustainable Design and Retail Store Design.

ICSC announced the winners during an awards ceremony at ICSC’s RetailGreen and CenterBuild Conference in Scottsdale. In addition, all 2017 U.S. Design and Development Gold Award winners are automatically entered into ICSC's prestigious VIVA Awards competition and are eligible to be named “The Shopping Center of the Year” or the “Best Sustainability Project.” The ICSC VIVA Awards recognize the retail real estate industry’s most cutting-edge properties, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends throughout the world. The global awards will be presented at RECon in Las Vegas in May 2018.
