Donations of gently loved handbags sought to support 'Open Your Purse for Change' event

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Here’s your chance to donate your purse and open your heart to help fight domestic abuse. The Montgomery County Women’s Center is currently accepting donations of new or gently-loved handbags for their 5th annual “Open Your Purse for Change” event set for Friday, February 23, 2018.

This year’s unique fundraising luncheon, chaired by Ally Seder along with co-chairs Shirelle Chimenti and Terry Larson, will feature a guest speaker, raffle and silent auction of fabulous handbags from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Woodlands Country Club – The Legacy Ballroom located at 100 Grand Fairway Drive in The Woodlands.

Proceeds will benefit the Montgomery County Women’s Center (MCWC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a United Way agency whose mission is to lead the effort in preventing domestic violence and sexual assault through crisis intervention, assistance, advocacy, empowerment and social change. Services include a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, transitional housing, advocacy, counseling, legal services and community outreach.

“This is a very special fundraising event for the Women’s Center,” explains Seder, MCWC board member. “It was created when the realization struck me that women must flee dangerous domestic violence crisis situations with literally the clothes on their backs and without their purse. This luncheon has become so popular over the last five years that we always have a full room at sell-out capacity. We encourage women to consider donating purses and attending Open Your Purse For Change to help make a difference in the lives of those who are served by the Women’s Center.”
