THE WOODLANDS, Texas-After the winter storm derailed all of Tuesday's games until Thursday, District 12-6A basketball was finally underway again after almost a week hiatus.

With all our South Montgomery teams coming into the second week of district play 1-0, one team would grab their first loss due to The Woodlands traveling over I-45 to take on the War Eagles. Oak Ridge starting the game on fire, leading by as much as 16 points in the first half, but could not hold off the explosive second half by the Highlanders. Cristian Calix has been the emotional leader for the War Eagles and it continued Thursday night. The point guard was able to feed Paul Payway down low for multiple quick buckets.

The Woodlands was able to rely on their upperclassmen as well. Guards Kesean Carter and Romello Wilbert handled a lot of the scoring and defensive prowess to lead the second half comeback.

While the game seemed to be dominated by upperclassmen, two freshmen stood out amongst the crowd, Oak Ridge's Griffin Datcher and The Woodlands' RJ Keene II. Datcher lived above the rim-grabbing multiple rebounds and put-back layups, while Keene hit two 3-pointers at crucial times in the game that put the Highlanders in front for good.

The Woodlands moves to 2-0 in district play after their 66-58 win, while Oak Ridge is handed their first loss. It's a quick turnaround for the Highlanders as they take on Conroe Friday, Jan. 19 at The Woodlands High School.

The Woodlands traveled to Oak Ridge Thursday night to take on the War Eagles and their young, talented team. Led by Head Coach Marlin Cloudy, the War Eagles came out hot from the Winter Storm break that delayed the game two days. The War Eagles would lead by as much as 16 in the first half till the Highalnders starting finding their shots.

Freshman RJ Keene II knocked down three late three pointers to seal the game for The Woodlands in their 66-58 win over Oak Ridge. The Woodlands will host College Park on Tuesday for the number one spot in district.
