The Woodlands Marathon: What you need to know about traffic, trolleys

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Thousands of runners from across the country will gather March 3 in The Woodlands for the Houston Methodist Half Marathon and the Fidelity Investments Marathon. There's also a Fleet Feet 5K Fun Run.

Here's what you need to know about traffic:

• Expect 45 minute to one hour delays in the center area of the racecourse
• Only residential traffic is recommended through and around the racecourse from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• All eastbound lanes on Lake Woodlands Drive will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. from Kuykendahl to Lake Front Circle. One lane will open around 10 a.m.
• Lake Woodlands Drive westbound will have contra flow

According to the Traffic Guide on The Woodlands Marathon website, the following travel routes are open:

Northbound

• Kuykendahl, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• Woodloch Forest, 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• FM 2978, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• I-45, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Southbound

• Branch Crossing, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• Woodloch Forest, 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• FM 2978, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• I-45, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Westbound

• Research Forest Drive, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• I-45, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• Lake Woodlands Drive, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Eastbound

• HWY 242, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• Woodlands Parkway, 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, The Woodlands Town Center Trolley will be using an alternate route Thursday March 1 through Sunday March 4 to accommodate events in the area.

Trolley rides are free seven days a week.
