Elizabeth Debaillon named 2018 Woman of Distinction by Montgomery County Women's Center

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Elizabeth “Liz” Debaillon has been chosen by the Montgomery County Women’s Center (MCWC) as its Woman of Distinction for 2018.

She will be recognized at the Women of Distinction Luncheon, to be hosted by the Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations (MCWCO) on Friday, May 4 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center. Each year, the MCWCO comes together for the Women of Distinction Luncheon to celebrate all the many accomplishments provided by volunteers of local charitable organizations. The goal of the luncheon is to shine a light on a specific volunteer from a local nonprofit agency. Each nonprofit agency votes on one volunteer they feel has gone above and beyond the call of duty for the agency. Most candidates are selected based on their volunteerism and service to the community.

“It is with great excitement that we announce Liz as our choice for The Montgomery County Women’s Center’s 2018 Woman of Distinction,” said Sarah Raleigh, President and CEO of MCWC. “She gives tirelessly sharing her time and effort to help improve the lives of others, and we are proud to honor her contributions.”

Debaillon was born and raised in Lafayette, LA. After finishing her undergrad degree at LSU, she moved to Houston where she began her professional career. She served in multiple capacities in the Human Resources field for 13 years before advancing her education to earn a law degree at South Texas College of Law. Her career as an attorney spanned in-house as well as law firm roles. She has been admitted to the State Bar of Texas as well as the United States District Court: Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas. Debaillon was recognized by her peers and received the distinction of the highest rating possible by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review. After retiring from the practice of law, she and her husband moved full-time to Montgomery where they reside on Lake Conroe.

Debaillon began volunteering with the Women’s Center in 2016 shortly after her retirement. She has worked on multiple projects such as Shelter Santa, Share-A-Family, and Hurricane Harvey clothing donations, as well as the large, on-going project of reorganization of the shelter donation room.”

“I am so proud to be honored by the Montgomery County Women’s Center at the Women of Distinction Luncheon,” said Debaillon. “What I love about my work with this agency is that all of the employees and other volunteers are truly dedicated to the needs of the Center and its clients.

“My husband ran the Forensic Nursing program at Memorial Hermann for approximately ten years, and therefore I am very familiar with the problem and the aftermath domestic violence leaves in its wake. Many people don’t realize that domestic violence happens at all socioeconomic levels and in all age groups. There is such a need for the important services provided by the Center.”

The Montgomery County Women’s Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a United Way agency whose mission is to lead the effort in preventing domestic violence and sexual assault through crisis intervention, assistance, advocacy, empowerment and social change. Services include a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, transitional housing, advocacy, counseling, legal services and community.
