VARSITY GIRLS’ SOFTBALL

4/2 at Concordia Lutheran* • 15-5 WIN

Thanks to a nine-run first inning, the Dragons were off to an early lead with contributions from Sreya Nalluri, Alex Sims, Marion Donald, Ally Flinn, Sarah Goossens and Grayson Sloop. Pitcher Eryn Sanchez was the winning pitcher with six innings, allowing six hits and five runs; striking out 14.

4/3 at St. John XXIII • 1-4 LOSS

An early lead by the Dragons wasn’t enough to defeat St. John XXIII, who evened up the score at the bottom of the fifth inning leading to a 4-1 defeat. Kaitlyn Harris and Grayson Sloop each had one hit for the Dragons.

4/6 vs. Houston Christian*, • 2-1 WIN

The Dragons made Cooper history in the team’s first-ever win over SPC-rival, Houston Christian. Pitcher Eryn Sanchez went seven innings and allowed just one run on one hit, striking out 11 and walking zero. Offensively, the Dragons collected four hits with Grayson Sloop and Ally Flinn each collecting multiple hits.

Coach Nicole Hedden: Wow, what a successful week! This is the first time in school history to beat Houston Christian! The girls are really starting to buy in and bond. Their dedication and hard work is paying off. Our seniors are leading this team in such an encouraging way. The coaching staff loves this Dragon team’s focus on the field and in the dugout; we could not be more pleased with the outcome this week!

Coach Brent Landrum: Our schedule is tough and it doesn’t get any easier with St. Thomas on Monday. The win versus Houston Christian was critical. We have a chance now to finish as high as the three seed. That would help our pitching in the tournament. Our bats need to wake up. We have been struggling at the plate recently. I expect that to turn around.
