College Park shuts out The Woodlands in rivalry rematch

THE WOODLANDS, Texas—After losing a heartbreaker to the Highlanders this Tuesday, the College Park Cavaliers held The Woodlands scoreless on Friday taking the victory 1-0.

College Park’s pitching was the issue for the Cavs in their first meeting this week. In steps Cavalier junior Brandon Garza who went hitless until the bottom of the sixth inning and completed the shutout and the win. After five stalled innings for both teams, Garza drove in Woodlands Online Player of the Game Jake Schill for the only and eventual game-winning run. The Highlanders couldn’t get much going off Garza, falling short in the end with the go-ahead run up at the plate when Luke Hammond popped a fly-ball up into right field for the final out.

The Woodlands moves back to an even .500 on the season with 13 wins and 13 losses total. Still in playoff contention, the Highlanders will look to bounce back in their final two games in a double-header with Lufkin. College Park heads into the final week of the season looking to make a push for a playoff bid. The Cavaliers will play the first of two games next week Apr 24 against the Conroe Tigers.
