John Cooper Coach Brent Landrum leaving baseball to focus on football; ends season with kudos to team

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – After 14 years, John Cooper School Coach Brent Landrum is stepping down as baseball coach to focus solely on football.

During his time as baseball coach, Landrum scored 254 game wins, 206 losses and six ties. In his last year, the team finished 3rd in SPC and ranked 14th in the state by Texas High School baseball in private schools.

Landrum is proud of his entire team but has a few shout outs to end his last season:

Logan Leax, OF, hit .434 with 34 RBI, 12 2B, 2 3B, and 1 HR. His OPS was 1.104. His fielding percentage was .966. He stole 15 bases. Logan was second team All-Montgomery County in football and he was our athlete of the year. He was All-SPC in baseball and football. Logan is committed to play baseball at George Washington University. He is class of 2019. He had 146 plate appearances.

Evan Minarovic, SS/P, hit .319 with 27 RBI, 10 2B, 2 3B, and 2 HR. His OPS was .881. On the mound he was 5-0 with a 1.04 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings pitched. He also had three saves. As our shortstop his fielding percentage was .918 on 110 total chances. He was All-SPC in baseball and football. He is committed to play baseball for Northwestern University in the BIG 10 as a shortstop. He had 136 plate appearances. Class of 2019.

Reed Smith, P, on the mound he was 6-1 with a 1.18 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 53 1/3 innings pitched. He is committed to pitch for Pepperdine University. Class of 2019.

Evan Godwin, P/1B, hit .315 with 39 RBI, 11 2B, 5 3B, and 4 HR. His OPS was 1.064. He had 144 plate appearances. His fielding percentage was .971 on 209 total chances. On the mound he was 3-3 with a 3.12 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings pitched. He was All-SPC in baseball for the second year in a row. He is committed to pitch for Texas Tech University. He is class of 2019.

"I am extremely proud of the baseball program we built at Cooper over my 14 seasons as head coach," Landrum said. "Thank you to every former player, parent, and coach for contributing greatly to Cooper baseball. I look to build the football program in the same manner the baseball program was built. Go Dragons!"
