With a continued need for access to high-quality emergency care in local communities, First Choice Emergency Room (ER) has reopened its Spring-Rayford facility after Hurricane Harvey’s wake left it inoperable nearly a year ago. The Spring-Rayford location was the only facility of First Choice ER’s 24 facilities located in neighborhoods across the Houston area to be impacted by the devastating storm. All other facilities, including First Texas Hospital, remained open to serve Houstonians 24/7 during and in the days following Harvey.

“We served record patient counts across all facilities in Houston, as the storm made landfall and lingered for the next five days, exposing the need for access,” said Maridel Acosta-Cruz, Houston Market Chief Executive Officer. “I am incredibly proud to be a part of a team and community that rallies together in an emergency to provide unparalleled health care.”

Staff from First Choice ER facilities across the state came together to help Houstonians. Many of our staff treaded through rain and high water to serve their patients, including local physician Dr. Brandon To, who peddled out on his bicycle for two hours to make it to his shift in time to relieve a fellow physician.

“Hurricane Harvey reinforced the dedication and perseverance of our staff and physicians which allowed us to keep our facilities open when Houstonians needed them most,” said Frank R. Williams, President and CEO of Adeptus Health. “Over the past year, the tireless efforts of our staff and physicians across Texas have allowed us to provide patients with the highest quality healthcare and emergency care.”

The Spring-Rayford facility will be led by facility medical director, Dr. Daniel O’Connor. He comes with nearly two decades of experience in emergency medicine.
