OAK RIDGE, Texas -- The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to Sophie Lasswell from Oak Ridge High School at their regular June meeting.

Oak Ridge High School’s Sophie Lasswell won the 2018 UIL Class 6A Girls' 3200 Meter Run State Championship at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 12, 2018 with a time of 10:24.52.

In introducing Lasswell, track and field coach Sterling Beck of Oak Ridge High School remarked, “I knew that I had something special… Sophie is just a great addition to Oak Ridge High School, she is a very giving person. When track came around, she won every 3200 meter race for the season, and her times improved by five and ten seconds each time she ran. She is the district champion, area champion, regional champion, and finally, with a 10:24 time, the state champion. I’m very proud and pleased to have known her and been able to work with her.”

Trustee Ray Sanders addressed the audience and stated, “It’s always amazing to me that we are at a school district that has state champions year after year. But it is also always amazing that we have students that come up here with great achievement and great success in life. We know that you’ll go on, Sophie, and do well in all that you do, and we just want to say congratulations.”
