THE WOODLANDS, Texas— If any team in CISD knows how to generate a lot of hype, it’s the Oak Ridge War Eagles. But after a 6-0 start to last year’s campaign, the War Eagles are back to the drawing board this year after an early playoff exit to Mesquite Horn last season. Friday will mark the first official test for the War Eagles as they host Pearland Dawson at Woodforest.

Big names such as Joseph Ossai and Tanner Lacy have graduated and moved on to the next level. With key losses on both sides of the ball, Head Coach Dereck Rush knows it’s “next man up”.

Kavon Townsend showed glimpses of his potential last year as a do it all type of player for the War Eagles. This year Townsend will be under center for Rush’s offense, an offense in which the quarterback position which saw more than four quarterbacks start last year. Helping keep the position stable is offensive tackle Tyler Johnson, the number one ranked OT in Houston will call Austin home in 2019 and suit up for the Longhorns.

Oak Ridge and Dawson know a thing or two about post season heartbreak. Both teams finished last year empty handed after a 6-4 regular season with Dawson losing their last three games of 2017. Dawson will lean heavily on their versatile offensive weapon Mason Pierce. Usually lining up in the backfield, the War Eagle defense should not be alarmed if #1 splits out wide as a receiver.

Looking to repeat last years hot start, the War Eagles will need to continue the hype into the postseason for this season to be seen as a success for this talented group.
