VARSITY VOLLEYBALL Dragons Maintain Winning Streak

9/4 at Bay Area Christian WIN

From Coach Ray Hedden: We had several out with either injuries or sickness, so we had to play in some new line ups. Cooper JV lost a tough match in three. Varsity won in dominating fashion. We were without our captain (Abby Frazier to illness) and Lauren Harkness is currently injured so Emily Stripling (freshman) made her first start at setter and handled the job well. Freshman Laura Weatherford led the team in Aces, so I was happy with the freshman contribution. Our juniors and seniors did what they always do and stayed focused to help lead the team to a victory.

Scores: 25-15, 25-16,25-6

9/6 vs Lutheran High North WIN

From Coach Ray Hedden: Volleyball won again in dominating fashion against Lutheran North. We had a great serving game, which proved to be too much for the opponent to overcome. We won in three: 25-9, 25-1, 25-8.

This was another game where we had every player contribute as a team. It was fun to watch. Many of the seniors/juniors were battling illness but got us started strong and the younger players stepped up and finished them off. It is always great to have every player contribute and get reps in game time and that what we were able to accomplish.

Season record: 16–2

Sept. 13 vs. St. Agnes, 5:30 p.m.

VARSITY FOOTBALL Dragons Add Another Win

9/7 at Legacy Prep • 51-13 WIN

John Cooper is 2-0 on the season.

Stats:

Offensive stats:

Team: Offensively Cooper averaged 13.4 yards per play on the night.

Passing: Evan Minarovic was 16-22 for 389 yards and 5 TD passes

Rushing: Evan Minarovic rushed for 73 yards on 4 carries and scored 2 TDs

Receiving:

Logan Leax had 4 catches for 85 yards and 2 TDs

Ben DeLoit had 3 catches for 90 yards and 1 TD

Thomas Elkhoury had 3 catches for 85 yards and 2 TDs

Will Young had 3 catches for 72 yards

Defensive stats:

Matt Krehbiel had 12 tackles and a fumble recovery

Joe Wilkins had 8 tackles and a forced fumble

Tré Caraway had 7 tackles

Kyle Dowd had 6 tackles

Logan Leax had an interception

Jake Peterson had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery

From Coach Brent Landrum: In two games Evan Minarovic has been hit once. That means the offensive line of Banner Chapman, Kase Harris, Kyle Dowd, Tré Caraway and Joe Wilkins are playing at a very high level. That bodes well for the season. I thought we dominated the game on all three sides of the ball against a very good football team. Legacy is a very physical and well coached football team. I am proud of our boys for rising to the challenge. Once we settled in defensively, we were much better. Now we turn to Bay Area Christian and our homecoming game. This team is focused on each week. If that continues, it’s going to be a great season for the Dragons.
