John Cooper student's photograph selected for Houston Center for Photography exhibit

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Maci Flanagan, a sophomore at The John Cooper School, was thrilled to learn that one of her photographs was selected for an exhibit now running at the Houston Center for Photography (HCP) in Houston.

What she didn’t know, however, and was a bit intimidated by when she attended the opening reception, was that the other 14 photographers whose work was selected are adults. “I was quite surprised when I walked in and I was the only high school student!” she said.

One of her photographs taken during a course she took at HCP, entitled “Aurora,” was chosen for “Learning Curve 11,” an annual exhibition of work selected from students of all ages who took classes at HCP.

Flanagan is pictured in the photograph on exhibit. Experimenting with the technique of Light Painting, she used a low shutter speed and her finger to create the effect she wanted.

A member of the school choir, Photography Club, literary and arts magazine staff, Flanagan also has a key role in Cooper’s fall musical, “A Little Princess.”
