THE WOODLANDS, Texas-- The Woodlands Highlanders look to keep their winning streak alive for another week against the Klein Cain Hurricanes Saturday night at Klein Memorial Stadium.

The Highlanders are coming off a dramatic come-from-behind 21-19 victory over new district opponent Klein Oak. With the quarterback situation up in the air for the Highlanders, senior Casey Sunseri looks to take the majority of snaps for The Woodlands Saturday night. Sunseri has split snaps at quarterback with junior Ben Mills for most of the season.

The Woodlands running back Bryeton Gilford has followed up his impressive sophomore season with a fast start to the 2018 campaign. The junior scored 17 touchdowns in his first year as the feature running back for The Woodlands, placing him in the top 10 in the Highlanders career touchdowns list. Gilford has surpassed his yardage total from last year in their first five games this year.

Jim Rapp’s defense has stepped up in recent weeks as well, holding opponents to 36 total points over the last three games. Defensive end Sean Stavinoha continued his excellent senior campaign with three sacks in the Highlanders win over Klein Oak. With The Woodlands defensive line consisting of Stavinoha, Caleb Fox, and Armani Lowery stopping the run, the two security blankets in the back end with Austin Winfield and Ben Langston, the Highlanders stingy defensive play should continue.

Klein Cain comes into Saturday night’s game looking for their first district win of the year and first victory since opening week against Cypress Park. The Hurricanes will have junior Luke Pardee under center Saturday night against the Highlanders. Tossing six scores to go along with four interceptions this season, Pardee will lead the Hurricanes against a Highlander defense that hasn’t been kind to opposing quarterbacks.
