THE WOODLANDS, TX -- After a bad loss, teams have two choices. They can step up and redeem themselves, or continue to feel sorry for themselves and pack it in. The War Eagles chose the first option in their convincing 56-34 win over Klein Forest. The War Eagles got back to doing what they do best which is running the ball relentlessly and mixing in just the right amount of passing.

Oak Ridge started the game down seven after failing to move the ball on their opening possession and giving up a six-yard touchdown run to Maurice Westermoreland midway through the first quarter. The next Oak Ridge possession would begin with great field position after a 48-yard return from Deavin Roland. This is when the explosive backfield of Kavon Townsend, Alton McCaskill, Adrian Murdaugh, and Kywon Morgan would begin to torment the Klein Forest defense. Two first down runs from McCaskill and Murdaugh set up Morgan’s first score of the game. The senior running back took the outside zone, a play we’ve seen him have great success with, and sprinted towards the near pylon for the three-yard score.

Oak Ridge forced a Klein Forest punt, then found the end zone for the second time in the quarter in just three plays. McCaskill took a screen pass for 44 yards into Klein Forest territory to set up Morgan’s second TD of the night, a 28-yard rip to take a 14-7 lead late in the first.

Klein Forest came ready to compete early on in Friday’s game. The Eagles responded with a quick score of their own to tie the game at 14 going into the second quarter. Dylan Hamilton showed off his play-making abilities in many ways in this game. On this drive, the Klein Forest receiver caught a tunnel screen, made defenders miss and flew to the end zone for the 40-yard score.

The second quarter showcased talent in areas other than just the run game for Oak Ridge. The War Eagles would take their second lead and never look back after a beautiful throw and catch from quarterback Kavon Townsend and his junior wide receiver Scott Hickey. The two connected on a 25-yard fade route to go up 21-14 early in the second quarter.
After three more rushing touchdowns, a pair from McCaskill and another by Townsend, the War Eagle defense was ready to make a splash of their own. The tag team of defensive lineman Trenton Tully and linebacker Alex Parker would force and recover two fumbles in the half. The second strip-sack recovered by Parker would be returned 76 yards for a touchdown as the first-half clock expired.

Klein Forest would put points on the board early in the third quarter, including a 64-yard punt return for a touchdown by the elusive Dylan Hamilton. However, before Forest could even begin to think about a comeback, Kavon Townsend gashed the KF defense once again with a 75-yard rushing touchdown to put the game away for good.

With the win, Oak Ridge gets their first district win under Coach Schmid to move to 1-2 in District 15-6A. With some surprising scores around the district on Friday, the win puts Oak Ridge right back in the mix for one of the top spots in the district. The War Eagles have a bye next week and will return to Woodforest in two weeks for a huge matchup with College Park.
