Three Tips To Ease Anxiety
We all can experience anxiety, whether it is through worrying about friends and family, a racing mind over to-do lists, or even with the constant pressure from society to achieve more or be more. Fortunately, we can can control to how we respond in these situations.
TAKE CONTROL- For starters, diffuse the situation. Think: “I see you anxiety, this isn't my first rodeo!” Don't try to fight the feelings, which will only make it worse. Consider running towards the anxiety - engage the feelings, focus on breathing and moving through them. This sounds terrible, but it can help you break out the anxiety loop if you really process the feelings.
MOVE - Moving your body is a great way to calm the nervous system. Working out also releases endorphins and increases your brain’s production of neurotransmitters that naturally makes you feel good! Consider taking a walk in nature and taking in the beauty around you, joining an exercise class, or finding a running group!
BREATHE - We seldom think about our breathing for how much it makes an impact on our health. Changing your breath truly does affect the body, mind, and soul immediately. Being able to control your breathing can have major health benefits, like lower blood pressure and heart rate, reduced stress and anxiety levels, stimulation of the lymphatic system, and more oxygen to nourish our brain and muscles. If you are noticing that you have shallow breaths, realize that this confuses your body and puts it in an anxious/stressed out state. Practice taking deeper, from-the-belly breathes.
