The best Teacher Appreciation Gift you've never heard of
It’s Teacher Appreciation Week!
This is one of my favorite weeks of the school year, one where the heroes in the schools are showered with appreciation. Teachers are underappreciated and underpaid, and while we can’t do much to change the latter, we can absolutely do something about the former.
What can you do this week for a teacher that has impacted your family?
It’s not very well known, but there is a way to honor teachers that would allow both them and their administrators on that campus to see all the great things you have to say. It’s called Teachers Achieving Excellence, or TAE, and it’s an easy online form you fill out through CISD’s Parent Portal. (This is only for students who attend CISD. Since that's where my kids are, I'm not sure how or if other districts do something similar. Comment below if your child goes to another district and they do!) Here’s how to access it:
Go to conroeisd.net and click on “Parents/Students”
Select Parent Access Center
Log in (if you don’t have a log in, you can create one for your family if you’re in the district)
Once logged in, click on “Teachers/Staff Excellence” at the top menu bar
There will be a dropdown where you can find the teacher or staff member you would like to write a TAE for; note, you can only pick a teacher or staff member from the current campus your child is at
You’ll then be taken to a page where you can select from a multitude of options that make this teacher or staff member stand out, as well as a place to add comments of your own (the photo to accompany this blog article is what part of the form looks like)
Note that when this TAE is submitted, it will immediately go to the teacher or staff member as well as all administration for that campus!
A TAE is a fabulous way for you to tell teachers and staff this week how appreciated they are! It gives a teacher or staff member recognition beyond a gift that you send in or a note because it allows them to be recognized in front of their administrators too. It only takes a few minutes of your day, but I promise, this is a Teacher Appreciation Week gift that will go a long, long way.
Thank you to all the teachers this week. While there may be times when you feel unseen and the days may feel long, I want you to know that you are seen and loved. The impact you are making on students will last forever. Thank you for using your gifts in a way that encourages growth in others. To teach is to leave the world a better place, and for this, we thank you.
