UV Rays

Most of us wear sunblock or an SPF when outdoors for an extended period of time. We do this to prevent sunburn and skin cancer. At Woodlands Eye Associates, we like to make all of our patients aware of the damaging effects UV rays can also have on our eyes.

Prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV rays is linked to cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye diseases. To protect your eyes from dangerous UV rays and to prevent the lengthy list of damaging diseases it can bring on, wear your sunglasses! Even on cloudy days and under shade, your eyes need protection. The sun’s UV rays can penetrate through the clouds. And, although shade reduces your exposure to UV rays, they reflect from water, buildings, windows and other surfaces.

And not just any old pair of sunglasses will do! Make sure you wear good quality sunglasses that are 100% UVA/UVB protected. Our knowledgeable staff at Woodlands Eye Associates can help you choose the best sunglass lenses for your needs. Our two showrooms at Panther Creek and Medical Plaza Drive have a large selection of designer and budget friendly sunglasses for the entire family.

Children need protection too. They tend to spend more time outside than adults and are at a higher risk for suffering from UV damage. Make sure your child’s eyes are also protected from the sun with good, quality sunglasses, also available at Woodlands Eye Associates.

We all look forward to our time outside on a nice sunny day. Make sure you have the proper tools to shield your eyes from the sun. Woodlands Eye Associates makes your eye health and comfort our highest priority. You can reach us at either of our convenient locations in The Woodlands. Panther Creek Shopping Center or Medical Plaza Drive. Click on https://woodlandseye.comfor more information!
