Restaurants at Waterway Square in The Woodlands close or are in limbo - Is high rent to blame?
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Waterway Square in The Woodlands is a popular attraction for both residents and visitors. With such a high amount of traffic, one would assume that businesses in the area would flourish. Sadly, this is not the case.
One restaurant in particular is Yucatan Taco Stand – Tequila Bar & Grill. With a premium location at Waterway Square, perhaps the rate of rent was also at a premium. In a document taped to the door of the establishment, it reads, in part, “Pursuant to your lease agreement, we [the landlord] have changed the locks to your door due to the non-payment of rent.” The letter goes on to provide contact information for the owners, should they wish to remedy the situation.
As we were walking around Waterway Square, we noticed that Nick's Fish Dive & Oyster Bar's patio seemed to be bare, though the restaurant would have been opened at the time of our visit. Across the street, we noticed a space for lease, but are unsure of what business occupied that particular space.
So, is rent the culprit of these business' issues? We can't be completely certain, but it seems to play a significant role. The Woodlands offers so much variety for dining options that the competition must be fierce. We wish the best of luck to Yucatan and all the businesses in Waterway Square, each providing a unique dining experience.
