Dr. Birken Offering New Peptides

By: Birken Medical Aesthetics | Published 05/25/2021

Dr. Birken can now order new peptides from Farmakeo in Dallas and is continuing to study their compounds.

"Impressed with the company's peptides," Dr. Birken said. "Now a better formulation for a growth hormone secretagogue as well as an interesting oral capsule that can help with weight loss."

Farmakeo makes an interesting combined growth hormone injection that includes CJC-1295 and Ipamorelin. Used as a daily subcutaneous injection, these peptides can lower subcutaneous fat, improve muscle mass, reduce aches and pains, and increase skin collagen.

In addition, the company compounds an oral capsule called 5-Amino 1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinoline). It is a peptide molecule that is directly derived from methylquinolinium (MQ).

It was discovered in 201 7  by researchers at the University of Texas who were attempting to discover small, selective, and membrane-permeable inhibitors of an enzyme called nicotinamide  N -methyltransferase (NNMT). In animal studies, there was a decrease in fat cells and increase in muscle mass. Some studies show reduced inflammation as well as improvement in lipid profile and reduction of blood sugar.

"This is a fascinating compound," Dr. Birken said. "While prescribed off label and relatively expensive, there are reports of weight loss and improved muscle mass.
