Everything You Need to Grill at Home
Grilling at home can be a great way to entertain or just feed the family. Cooking outdoors in the summertime can be fun and rewarding. Following are a few things to consider when setting up a complete outdoor grilling area.
Outdoor Cooking Area
Some people want a portable grill that can be moved as needed. These are often smaller grills on wheels that you can find at any major retailer. Another option is to create a dedicated outdoor cooking space where the grill becomes the focal point.
Types of Grills
There are two primary types of grills. Those that use gas, like propane, and those that use charcoal. Many barbecue purists will say charcoal is the best and only option, but it does take a lot more work to start the grill than gas. Choose the grill that fits your lifestyle.
You also need grilling tools to cook outside. You can buy a nice set at any store that will include most of the important items. You’ll want a pair of long tongs, a large fork and a basting brush. You also will need tools to clean the grill, including a brush and a scraper. Many avid grillers also recommend a good meat thermometer.
If you want to test out your new grill, the easiest recipe is a veggie skewer. Use metal or wooden skewers and choose your favorite vegetables. For a rainbow effect, select items like red onion; red, green, yellow and orange bell peppers; and mushrooms and zucchini. If you want to grill meat skewers, most experts suggest that you grill meat separately to ensure the right level of doneness.
