Pain Awareness Month
This one hits close to home!
Can you imagine having throbbing pain in one part of your body that never goes away? Every day we see patients who are at their wits end trying to manage their chronic pain. Chronic pain may be caused by inflammation, dysfunctional nerves, or post-injury. The main symptom of chronic pain is persistent pain that lasts from weeks to years. It is defeating and exhausting.
Pain is real. But so is hope.
For National Pain Awareness Month, we try to uplift our patients with encouraging acts! Last year, we had a bulletin board up in our office that allowed patients to write down a message of hope to each other. It was beautiful!
How can you help?
The International Association for the Study of Pain launches pain awareness month to help spread the word. Their hashtag this year is #PainCounts. You can make a donation towards their mission of working towards pain relief worldwide, here.
Reach out to your pain management doctors, thank them for their efforts! Recognize the caretakers who are with chronic pain patients day in and day out. And always remind your loved ones that they are not alone. Sometimes that’s all they need to hear to subside the pain for a moment.
Thank you for following us, at The Pain Management Center of Houston we are always looking for ways to improve, get involved, and be there for our community. Please reach out to us if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns.
