Job Description

The Sales Tax Manager’s role is to manage compliance efforts for sales tax and business tax; manage sales tax audits; and provide support to other members of the Accounting/Finance team. The candidate will also lead and/or assist with tax efficiency initiatives with Marketing, IT, Accounts Payable and other internal groups. Tax is a material and important area for Conn’s. Accordingly, this will position will have considerable exposure to Conn’s senior management team. The candidate will have the opportunity to understand the overall business and should be motivated by the opportunity to evaluate and improve Conn’s sales tax function.

Responsibilities:
The job position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Lead sales tax compliance for the organization, which includes gathering, analyzing and providing data for outsourced sales tax returns
• Manage tax audits
• Partner with service provider to accomplish sales-tax related compliance and efficiency efforts
• Prepare tax journal entries and related reconciliations
• Perform tax analysis as needed and provide related information to management
• Analyze tax impact of proposed transactions
• Prepare tax filings related to business tax licenses and gross receipts taxes
• Determine direct and indirect tax filing obligations for new jurisdictions
• Research tax issues and assist with special projects as needed

Skills Required

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting with advanced degree in accounting or related field preferred
• CPA preferred, or working toward certification
• Minimum of eight years related experience, preferably with at least two years of Big 4 or other public accounting experience
• Retail experience preferred
• Must exhibit attention to detail, initiative and ability to work under tight deadlines
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to identify system and process improvements
• Ability to engage others and to work collaboratively with all departments across the company
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills and ability to work within a variety of ERP systems; Lawson and Oracle experience a plus
