Position Overview: This is a year-round program for high school novice, JV, Varsity athletes, and Masters. Practice is up to 6 days a week, afternoons during the school year, and mornings on weekends and summer. The Head Coach is responsible for crafting, implementing, and overseeing on and off water training plans and regatta plans. The Head Coach will also ensure that the conduct of the club is in accordance with the team’s philosophy, bylaws, and guidelines. He or She will work with the Executive Board, and assistant coach, to build long-term stability for the club while coaching the team through competitive rowing seasons.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Attend all practices and Regattas
  • Opportunity to work with and build upon the established Master program
  • Provide an open and welcoming environment for master’s athletes with varying backgrounds and athletic abilities.
  • Design and implement on and off-water training programs throughout the academic year, including during school breaks, as needed
  • Provide coaching both on the water as well as on land with an emphasis on athlete development and safety
  • Assist the team’s Board on matters relating to recruitment, fundraising, and travel arrangements
  • In conjunction with the Executive Directors, selecting regattas and assist with submitting racing entries
  • When necessary, identify and select candidates for assistant coaching positions, in coordination with the team’s executive board.
  • Assess rowing skills and abilities, and give constructive and technical feedback
  • Ability to move the launches to and from the storage shed before and after each practice
  • Uphold mission, vision, and values of the club at all times

Required Qualifications

  • 2- 4 years of coaching experience with a background in High School, and collegiate rowing
  • US Rowing Level 2 or 3 Coaching Certification
  • US Rowing SafeSport and CPR/First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to operate a launch and perform basic motor maintenance
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability and willingness to assist with the transporting of a trailer and equipment to races
  • Ability to develop rowing technique and conditioning in athletes of varying skill levels and experience
  • Knowledge of both sweep and sculling technique
  • Knowledge and familiarity with rigging and shell/equipment maintenance
  • Candidates must be able to legally work in the US and not require sponsorship

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with minor to moderate shell repair
  • Ability to motivate middle and high school students in a positive manner through positive leadership
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively, and teach fundamentals and techniques associated with the sport
  • High level of professionalism and a strong work ethic
  • Willingness and passion for developing young adults into well rounded student-athletes
  • Proactive problem solver who is willing to collaborate with the team’s executive board
  • Energetic and passionate about coaching and the sport of rowing
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills, and ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently


  • Compensation is competitive will be based upon experience. End-of-season bonuses may be available and increases in compensation will be based on the club’s results and athlete retention.
