Job Description

Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. Special needs experience is preferred, but not required. Training provided.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assisting clients in achieving individual goals
• Assisting clients in social integration
• Behavior support which includes physical management
• Working with clients who may be aggressive or disruptive
• Assess clients’ skills to determine their needs and to develop activity plans
• Adapt activities to meet the needs of clients
• Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each client’s abilities
• Teach and mentor clients as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one
• Discuss client’s progress with supervisor and document as required
• Respect the client’s developmental needs, so that their skills can be applied in their daily routine
• Create and implement games and social events for enriching client development
• Tutor clients directly and document useful information for assessment
• Give individualized care to those who need it (personal care)
• Ensure all client’s needs are met during lunch time
• Accompany those who need to be walked in the bathroom and assist client as needed
• Monitor the clients during social events and field trips
• Drive program bus/van during field trips
• Maintain good collaborative behavior with co-workers
• Maintain a clean and neat workspace; performing necessary daily cleaning
• Respect and follow company norms while maintaining professional ethics
• Abide by the company Employee Handbook policies
• Hours: 8:30AM – 3:30PM Monday – Friday, unless otherwise approved by supervisor

Skills Required

Teacher/Care Givers assist clients with special needs under the direction of the Program Coordinator/Manager, working in an inclusionary setting (i.e. least restrictive environment) at Day Program/Activity Center. The Teacher/Care Giver help special needs clients, and care for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships.
Must be able to drive program bus/van during field trips.
