3v3 Rules
  1. THE GAME
    1. Number of Players (Open Play): A team will consist of 3 players on the court. Teams must have at least 2 players to start a game. There are no gender requirements.
    2. Number of Players (Co-Ed): A team will consist of 3 players on the court. Teams must have at least 2 players to start the game, including 1 female. A team must have a minimum of 1 female on the court at all times during game play.
    3. Starting a Game: Captains will face off in Rock Paper Scissors (RPS). Winner of the RPS will get the ball first.
    4. Scoring (Open Play): Each game will consist of one and two pointers from inside the arc and outside the arc respectively.
    5. Scoring (Co-Ed): For male players, each game will consist of one and two pointers from inside the arc and outside the arc respectively. For female players, each game will consist of two and three pointers from inside the arc and outside the arc respectively.
    6. Management and Officiating: All games are to be self-officiated. If at any point during the game a team believes their opponents are misapplying the rules, that team can ask for the Woody Pine Site Manager to watch and settle disputes.
  2. LEAGUE FORMAT
    1. Two Games Per Night: All teams will play two games per league night against two different opponents.
    2. Game: Each game is played straight up to 21 points.
    3. Game Length: The game clock is 20 minutes. If the time limit is reached before a team has scored 21 points, the team currently winning the game will be declared the winner.
      1. In the case of a tie at the expiration of the game clock, refer to rule 5.4.
  3. TOURNAMENT FORMAT
    1. Three Game Guarantee: All teams are guaranteed three games.
    2. Game: Each game is played straight up to 21 points.
    3. Game Length: The game clock is 20 minutes. If the time limit is reached before a team has scored 21 points, the team currently winning the game will be declared the winner.
      1. In the case of a tie at the expiration of the game clock, refer to rule 5.4.
  4. SCORING
    1. Made Baskets (Open Play): Each made basket within the 3-point arc will count as one (1) point and each basket outside the 3 point arc will count as two (2) points.
      1. In the case of playing on a court without a defined arc, all baskets made will count as one (1) point.
    2. Made Baskets (Co-Ed): Each made basket within the 3-point arc will count as 1 point for males and 2 points for females. Each basket outside the 3 point arc will count as 2 points for males and 3 points for females.
      1. In the case of playing on a court without a defined arc, all baskets made will count as 1 point for males and 2 points for females.
    3. Free Throws: There are no free throws in 3v3 Basketball.
      1. In the case of a foul during a shot attempt, refer to rule 5.1.2.
    4. Score Announcements: Scoring team will announce the score after each basket before checking the ball.
  5. GAMEPLAY
    1. NFHS Standard: All fouls and violations are based on National Federation Highschool rules.
    2. Fouls: The offensive team will be responsible for calling their own fouls.
      1. After any non-shooting foul, the ball will be retained by the offensive team at the top of the key behind the 28 foot line.
      2. Shooting Fouls: If a player is fouled in the act of shooting:
        1. Made Basket: Count the basket and no additional points or possession is awarded; The opposing team checks the ball at the 28 foot line.
        2. Missed Basket: Possession is retained by the offensive team and the ball is checked at the 28 foot line.
      3. Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Any fouls deemed to be excessive and/or flagrant may result in disqualification from the game at the discretion of the WPS Site Manager.
      4. Last Possession Fouls: Any foul committed by the defense as time expires will result in the offensive team awarded one additional possession.
        1. The game concludes whenever the defending team gains possession of the ball.
    3. Game Flow: The following rules handle change of possession:
      1. Made Baskets: After a made basket, the ball will be checked up at the 28 foot line. The offensive player must pass the ball in to start the next possession.
        1. Made baskets result in change of possession (no make it take it).
      2. Missed Baskets: All missed baskets must be cleared by the defense.
        1. Clearing the ball is defined as one foot touching the 3 point line after a change in possession.
          1. In the case of no defined 3 point line, clearing requirements will be established at the WPS site manager’s discretion.
        2. If the offensive team regains possession they do not need to clear the ball.
        3. If the defensive team gains possession by rebound or a steal they need to clear the ball beyond the 3 point line.
          1. Failure to clear the ball before shooting results in a dead ball. The possession is retained and the ball is checked at the 28 foot line.
      3. Held Balls: All held balls go to the defense.
      4. Stalling: If an offensive team appears to be stalling, the site manager can implement a 10 second shot clock that will result in a loss of possession if no shot is attempted.
    4. Tie Game: If the game ends in a tie, overtime will take place. Overtime is the first team to score wins. The team that started the game with the ball will start on defense in overtime.
  6. BREAKS IN PLAY
    1. Substitutions: A substitution can only be made during a dead ball or a made basket.
    2. Time Outs: Each team is allowed one 30-second timeout per game. The clock runs through timeouts.
      1. No timeouts are awarded in the last 3 minutes of the game.
    3. Injuries: In the case of an injury that causes the game to stop, the game time will be paused at the discretion of the WPS Site Manager.
5v5 Rules
  1. THE GAME
    1. Number of Players: A team will consist of 5 players on the court. Teams must have at least 4 players to start a game. There are no gender requirements.
    2. Number of Players (Womens): A team will consist of 5 players on the court. Teams must have at least 4 players to start a game. All players must be female.
    3. Starting a Game: The game starts with a jump ball at center court.
    4. Scoring: Each game will consist of two and three pointers from inside the arc and outside the arc respectively.
    5. Management and Officiating: All games will be officiated by 2 certified referees. One WPS Site Manager will be present at all times.
  2. LEAGUE FORMAT
    1. One Game Per Night: All teams will play one game per league night.
    2. Game Length: Each game consists of two 20 minute halves. The clock is a running clock and will stop on all dead balls in the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half.
      1. In the case of a twenty point lead in the last 2 minutes the clock will not stop on dead balls.
      2. In the case of a tie at the expiration of the game clock, refer to rule 7.4.
  3. TOURNAMENT FORMAT

  4. SCORING

    2. Score Clock: There will be one score keeper managing the score table and clock.
  5. PRE-GAME
    1. Roster Line Up: Team captains must submit line up to the scorekeeper before the game begins. Line up sheets will be provided by WPS staff.
    2. Warm Up: Teams have 3 minutes on the court to warm up before their game.
      1. No dunking during warm ups.
      2. No hanging on the rim at any time.
  6. GAMEPLAY
    1. NFHS Standard: All fouls and violations are based on National Federation High School rules that are not listed below.
    2. Personal Fouls: All common fouls will be recorded as personal fouls and team fouls. Each player is permitted 6 personal fouls.
      1. Technical Fouls: The first (T) given to any player during the game, player will be benched for 2 minutes (a sub may enter the game). If a player received a 2nd technical foul, they will be disqualified from the game.This will also result in the player being suspended for the next game. The suspended player may choose to pay the reinstatement fee of $30 to Woody Pine Sports and play the next game.
    3. Team Fouls: Team fouls are recorded to award bonus free throws.
      1. Bonus: Team’s will shoot 1 and 1 upon the 7th team foul and 2 shots upon the 10th team foul.
    4. Overtime: If the game ends in a tie, overtime will take place. Each overtime starts with a jump ball at center court.
      1. No additional timeouts are granted.
      2. 1st Overtime: Two minutes – stopped clock.
      3. 2nd Overtime: Sudden death – first basket wins.
  7. BREAKS IN PLAY
    1. Substitutions: A substitution can only be made during a dead ball and the player must check in at the score table.
    2. Time Outs: Each team is allowed three 60-second timeouts per game.
    3. Injuries: In the case of an injury that causes the game to stop, the game time will be paused at the discretion of the Referee or WPS Site Manager.
