In loving memory of Sgt. Marty Gonzalez

Donation protected

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of a true American hero.  Sgt. Marty Gonzalez was a decorated hero, wounded in combat, a proud Marine, a loving husband, and a devoted father.  Marty was a generous man; a straight shooter who would do anything for anyone.  He was a selfless servant, a vessel of honor, and openly shared his struggles both physically and mentally in order to help others in need.

Gonzalez survived a 30-day stretch in Fallujah from November- December 2004, earning three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars for valor, and two Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medals with Valor.  Wounds sustained in November of 2004 were from shrapnel from a grenade blast, however Sgt. Gonzalez was able to remain in the fight.  Injuries sustained back to back on Dec 12 and 13, 2004 were from another grenade blast that resulted in a broken back.  Sgt. Gonzalez bravely continued fighting into the next day when he was shot in the arm.  Sgt.  Gonzalez returned home shortly thereafter due to the severity of his injuries.

Doctors performed nine surgeries to save his arm alone, as well as many others others to address his broken back.  He suffered from chronic pain that, at times, put him in a wheelchair and made it painful and difficult to walk. His head injury caused multiple issues as well.  Through it all, Sgt. Gonzalez never wavered in his desire to serve our country and always maintained he would go back and do it all again if he meant he could save the lives of his brothers and sisters in arms.

Marty was unable to carry life insurance due to the numerous health issues caused from his injuries sustained in Fallujah.  Therefore, we are providing a page which will help provide assistance to the family during this difficult time.  Please consider a donation in support of the Gonzalez family.  Funds raised will help with vital and necessary living expenses, and will be deposited directly to Tawnee's account to use at her discretion.  Together, we will help Tawnee and the children overcome their loss and grief and ease their financial burden.

Marty leaves behind a wife and four children.  His adoring and loving wife, Tawnee, was his best friend, his caretaker, and the center of his world.   Marty loved and cherished his family more than anything, especially his four children, Alyssa, Adryan, Kaylen and Emry.  It is with a heavy heart that we continue to pray for the Gonzalez family.  We lost an American hero from natural causes on Saturday, Nov. 28th, and heaven gained an angel.  Rest easy, dear friend.  Your watch is over.  We will take it from here...
