The Community Clinic Receives $305,000 from DOCS

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Following their successful gala fundraiser last fall, Doctors Outreach for Community Service (DOCS) recently presented $305,000 in funds to The Community Clinic.

The Community Clinic is a non-profit health care center that provides free medical, dental, mental health and social services to those who are uninsured and on a limited income. Established in 1996 by Dr. Joel Kerschenbaum, it is donation-funded and staffed by licensed physicians, nurses, dentists, dental assistants, dental hygienists, social workers as well as translators and support people, all who volunteer their time and services to run the Clinic.

The DOCS organization is a group of female physicians and community leaders dedicated to improving healthcare for the underserved in the local community. The founding members of DOCS include: Jenna Everson, M.D., Chair of Medical Outreach; Shirelle Chimenti, Chair of Community Outreach; Marra Francis, M.D.; Sabrina Lahiri, M.D.; Shelli Moran, Operating Partner - Fleming's Prime Steakhouse; and Emma Sims, M.D.

Rebecca C. Jones, LBSW, Executive Director of The Community Clinic, said, "DOCS is simply an amazing organization. They are truly remarkable and have a deep understanding and commitment to what we do every day."

"The money that they were able to raise has been designated to make the changes needed to move our medical program into the next phase of growth for the community. In particular, the funds will help us hire a full-time medical provider and to support this position with additional staff and the necessary supplies and equipment needed to support the care that they will be able to provide. We are so thankful to DOCS and their continued support to The Community Clinic as we strive to provide free health care services to those in need."

According to Jones, it is estimated that in Montgomery County alone, over 25% of residents are uninsured.

The gala fundraiser, in its 2nd year, was hosted last September at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in The Woodlands. Guests enjoyed an extraordinary evening of exquisite food exclusive winds and an exceptional auction.
